Pretty much everyone with more than a passing interest in food in London with who likes to read blogs have either read about or eaten at Franco Manca already. So, without further ado, here is just my 2 cents:

I didn’t like it very much.

Franco Manca serves authentic thin crust pizza using sourdough and their pizzas are traditional recipes using just a couple of toppings. Herein lies the problem, I was brought up on Pizza Hut eating deep pan pizza and my current favourite pizza is Domino’s Meateor using a BBQ sauce base and topped with meatballs, ground beef, sausage, pepperoni and smoky bacon (no, seriously, its awesome).

We tried pizza numbers 1 and 3 which were the margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil) and the latter was essentially the same as the former but with Gloucester Old Spot ham as well. Admittedly, the dough is great, non greasy and the base is wafer thin.

The praises stop there though as the toppings are simple and to me, rather tasteless and the wafer thin dough ended up getting a bit soggy in the middle. One may say that it was tasteless because it was a margherita and lacked toppings such as pepperoni, olives or anchovies, but I don’t believe in that since I’ve eaten plenty of great tasting simple margheritas before, just not here.

Admittedly, the prices were really cheap for London restaurant prices and it wasn’t as if they skimped on the restaurant itself either as it was comfortable and quite roomy (although baking hot); we paid about £15 for two large pizzas and a bottle of organic lemonade.

Food – 4.0
Service – 5.0
Atmosphere – 5.0
Value – 6.0

Best bit: going to a place nearly all my peers’ love.
Worst bit: not finding the same love myself.
