My Wedding Day - Part III

Friday, 8 May 2009

So, here's my final wedding post - the wedding banquet. The wedding banquet was held in the grand ballroom of a hotel in Kuala Lumpur as mentioned in my previous post. It was a themed wedding - Shanghai Night, so you will see lots of red lanterns and red drapes everywhere in the pictures. It started off with a cocktail session at the ballroom foyer where guests registered and mingled around before proceeding to the grand ballroom.

The wedding dinner started with the marching in of both of our parents and siblings. The bridesmaids and groomsmen marched in afterwards from the sides of the ballroom. The bridesmaids were all dressed in cheongsams and holding a fan during the march-in.

March-in of the bridal couple.

The waiters' turn to march in, each holding the first dish - hot & cold combination platter to serve each table. This was the starter.

It was a 9-course dinner and the dishes were served throughout the night at various intervals, one course at a time. I wish I had taken my camera to take pictures of the food! But sorry, the bride was not allowed to hold a camera, so you can only imagine the dishes...

Hot & cold combination platter
Braised shark's fin soup with seafood
Crispy barbecue 'pei pa' chicken
Steamed Australian Garoupa with soy & cilantro
Wok-fried X.O prawns, macadamia nuts in potato basket
Mushroom, fungi abalone with dried scallop & vegetable
'Yong chow' fried rice with silver anchovies
Chilled soya bean with sweetened gingko nuts & snow fungus & barley
Wedding fancy duets - jelly filled with red bean paste & fried sesame balls filled with lotus paste

After the first dish was served, the father of the groom and the best man gave their speeches.

My cousin playing the piano. She played our march-in songs.

Our guests lighting up the wedding favours!

wedding dinner07

Our second march-in. I changed into a red cheongsam and the wild boar changed into a red tie with gold sakura motif to match my cheongsam.

wedding dinner08

Although you can't see it, but I was wearing a matching red pair of Jimmy Choo!

wedding dinner12

After the second march-in, my sister went on stage to give a speech, followed by the maid of honour.

The MC then invited us on stage to play some games. She asked us a few random questions and we both had to answer. They were relatively simple questions, nothing very embarassing, but the wild boar got 2 answers wrong like my shoe size! The wild boar then had to do tongue twisters in Mandarin and Cantonese which both he can't read/speak, so I had to coach him. Everyone had a good laugh at his bad pronunciation.

Family members on stage to give a toast.

wedding dinner15

The wedding cake topper again....it's just too cute..hehe...

wedding dinner14

After toasting, we both gave a speech and after that, my bouquet toss.

wedding dinner01

Two of my bridesmaids (my highschool friends) performed the song '夜上海 -Shanghai Night' on stage.

wedding dinner11

While the 2 of us danced to the song.

wedding dinner03

wedding dinner02

Table-to-table toasting where we go round to each table and toast. Everyone would shout 'yuuuuuuuuuuuuum sing' (means cheers) before drinking. There were 62 tables but we only managed to do about 30 or so tables because it was time to bid the guests farewell.

wedding dinner17

Time to say bye-bye.

Wow. I just read through the three wedding posts. What an elaborate and beautiful wedding! I had a very small and informal wedding, and while I loved it and it perfectly suited my life, I love reading about big weddings. It's so fun to see all the different traditions. I especially enjoy all the trials the boys had to go through. They sound like they were good sports about it.

I was surfing the web randomly about wedding and I found your post of your wedding... This was something I was dreaming of for my wedding to be... Congrats, everything seems to be perfect!

May I also ask where did you get the double happiness candles for the guests? I love that for my guests as well...

Thanks

pigpigscorner said...

Thanks =) You can get the candles from ebay, but since my wedding was in Msia, the postage was crazy high. I ordered them from a factory in China, and got someone to take them back to Msia for me.
